Natural Environment

Evans Head is surrounded by two National Parks and Dirawong Crown Reserve making it a focus for those interested in Nature and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage.  Both National Parks were part of the World War II Bombing and Gunnery Ranges used for training. The Museum holds a major collection of materials relating to Dirawong flora and fauna and has a dedicated large screen electronic display on our native plants in flower and landscape of the Dirawong.  The collection includes aerial photographs going back to World War II.

We know from our visitors that it is the local natural history of the area which draws many to Evans Head. Birdwatchers, Botanists, photographers and hikers visiting our local natural areas come to us for advice about trails and things to see.  Many of them stay at Reflections Holiday Park and are repeat visitors year after year particularly in the winter and spring months when the Parks and the 360ha Dirawong Reserve are at their best for floral displays and photography.
